The Roscommon County Development Plan 2022-2028 came into effect on the 19th April 2022, following its adoption by the Elected Members of Roscommon County Council, at a Special Planning Meeting held on 8th March 2022.

This Plan sets out an overarching vision and holistic strategy for the proper planning and sustainable development of County Roscommon for a six-year period.

It also sets out guiding policies and objectives for the development of County Roscommon in terms of economic and physical growth, social and cultural activity, and environmental protection and enhancement.

The Elected Members of Roscommon County Council, having considered the Draft Roscommon County Development Plan 2021-2027 and the Chief Executive’s Report on submissions received, resolved, following a Council meeting dated 16^th November 2021, to amend the Draft Roscommon County Development Plan.

The Draft Roscommon County Development Plan 2021 – 2027 was placed on public display from Wednesday 21st April 2021 to Friday 2nd July 2021.

A total of 160 submissions and observations were received during the prescribed period in response to this stage of public consultation.

The Elected Members thanked the staff of the Planning Section in Roscommon County Council and praised them for all their hard work to get the Plan to this stage.

The Proposed Amendments will now go on display from the 7th of December and submissions are welcomed once again from members of the public.

The Forward Planning Unit of Roscommon County Council are hosting a live Webinar event to explain the details of the Draft County Development Plan.

The Draft Plan was published at the end of April and submission and observations from members of the public are welcomed and encouraged until the 2nd of July.

Lead Officer of the Forward Planning Team, Pio Byrnes, said “Engagement with the public at this stage is a vital part of the plan making process. We’d like to encourage as many people as possible to become engaged with and get involved in contributing to the County Development Plan. We want to hear people’s views, expectations and hopes about how they feel the county should grow and prosper in the coming years.

The County Development Plan is a hugely significant document. It will cover everything from population growth, to employment and economic development, transport, tourism, natural resources, community development, telecommunications, culture and the environment. Everything of note that happens in the county is covered by the County Development Plan. This is why public input is so vital.

As part of the ongoing consultation process for the Draft Roscommon County Development Plan, we are hosting a Webinar on Wednesday 26th May 2021 from 14:30 to outline to members of the public what the Draft Roscommon County Development Plan is about and how people can get involved.”

Roscommon County Council have published the Draft Roscommon County Development Plan 2021-2027. The Draft Plan is a six-year strategy to make Co. Roscommon a vibrant, connected, natural, inclusive and smart place to work and live.

Public consultation is now open on the Draft Plan and submissions on the Draft Plan are being accepted until the 2^nd July 2021. The Draft Plan may be viewed online at the dedicated website, www.rosdevplan.ie as well as in the Planning Office, Aras an Chontae, Roscommon. It should be noted that viewing in the Planning Office is by appointment only and arrangements can be made by telephone at 090 6637175 or by e-mailing planning@roscommoncoco.ie. Visitors will be required to adhere to the Standard Operating Guidance protocols in place at this time.

Members of the public as well as organisations and groups are invited to make a submission on the Draft Plan before the 2^nd of July. This is a great opportunity for members of the public to engage with the Development Plan Process and have an impact on the way the future of Co. Roscommon is shaped.

Please note submissions that are emailed cannot be considered and will be returned.

The Forward Planning team are currently preparing public consultation events and more details of these will be posted on www.rosdevplan.ie in due course.

Íde Carty, aged 4, has been chosen as the winner of the Children’s Art Competition which was organised by the Forward Planning Team of Roscommon County Council.

The competition is an initiative to get younger people involved in the plan making process and for them to have their say in how the county develops in the future. Budding artists in the county were asked to tell what they would like to see in Roscommon when they grow up. The initiative was well received and attracted a large number of entries.

The winner of the competition, Íde who attends Corrigenroe National School, was presented with her €50 One for All voucher by an Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Cllr. Laurence Fallon at King House, Boyle.

The Forward Planning Team would like to take this opportunity to thank all the young artists who entered and their parents or guardians for their involvement and participation. All participants in the competition were awarded a Certificate thanking them for the important role they played in the future development of the County Roscommon.
